Monigle Associates Inc. was founded in 1971, but what’s the story behind founder Glenn Monigle? In his own words he tells his story in response to many inquiries from staff.

Meet Glenn Monigle

Following combat in Korea in 1950, where I served in the Marine Corps, and after completing school at the Rhode Island School of Design, I became part of Peter Muller-Munk Associates in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania in 1955. The firm was a 70 person consultancy, where I bumbled through the ranks to executive vice president, functioning in the realms of products design and corporate communications.

Some of my projects:

  • The 1964 World’s Fair Unisphere
  • U.S. Department of Commerce trade fairs in Europe
  • The design of the Pittsburgh Steelers identity and parts of the team’s new stadium
  • Branding and facilities for Texaco and Standard Oil
  • Product design for Rockwell International
  • Rapid transit vehicles for the Washington Transit Authority
  • New York City’s signage system

My clients included Wayne Pump, Westinghouse, Bissell, Stanley Tools, Alcoa, Pittsburgh Plate Glass, Mobay Chemical, General Electric Locomotives, and many others.

Following that gig, in 1969 I moved to Denver with family―in order to improve skiing―and to start a new practice. The work started with a handful of very talented employees working on ski-related projects for Lange Ski, Bear Valley Ski Resort, and Telluride. Larger projects and clients that developed included Storage Technology, signage and graphics for the World Trade Center in New York, Bank of New York, Chase Bank, Wachovia, The Williams Companies, Bank of Oklahoma, Diamond Shamrock, Champlin Petroleum, Farmland Industries, Winterthur Museum, Denver Art Museum, Freeport-McMoRan, La Boulangerie, Eaton Corp., MidAmerican Energy, and Tektronix Corp.

Several of the stalwarts at my firm (some with the firm 30 years or more―they know who they are) participated in many of these projects as the company advanced and grew. And, as is often the case, we have spun off over 50 brand and design companies, through the process of maturation. As a result of diverse and heavy experience, today we have grown into an impressive assemblage of specialists that meet today’s ever more demanding requirements in branding and design. It is indeed very satisfying to witness the continued success and dedication as the firm moves forward to bigger and better challenges.
