Monigle Associates Goes Red! for American Heart Association 7.1.2008 As an annual team-building activity, the employees at Monigle Associates select a charity organization to support via an in-house fundraising campaign. The American Heart Association (AHA) was selected this year because, well, heart disease is in the news we hear about it, we read about it, and we probably all know someone close to us who is at risk for or has had a heart attack. Heart disease is the #1 health problem for both women and men in the United States. The AHA is committed to fighting and raising awareness of the disease.
The team at Monigle collectively decided not only to help a former client, but also to support a worthwhile cause. The contributions raised would help provide the education and resources to help reduce the number of deaths caused by cardiovascular disease.
To promote the campaign, we created Monigle Jeans Day(s). Employees who made a $20 contribution received an AHA "It Takes Heart" red wristband that entitled them to wear jeans to work (something not normally acceptable) on four designated days—provided they wear their wristband. So far, we have raised $1,650, including $500 from the owners. Monigle Associates Senior Associate and Team Leader Mike Herburger is continually asked, When is the next Jeans Day? While some people joked, Jeans make me look fat, or My denim cut-offs are not office appropriate, we have had nearly 100% participation. Herburger remarked, This has been a very positive and enthusiastic effort embraced company-wide. Matt Filby, Digital Media added, It's fool-proof, feel-good—an easy way for all of us to contribute. The work the AHA does in the way of education and awareness helps make a real time difference in people's lives. It's a direct and personal way for us to give our continued support to the AHA's mission, in line with all the health care work that we do and believe in here at Monigle Associates.
